Let’s hear it for #AWP14! Where I’ll be, and where you should be too

Well, well, well. It’s time for AWP 2014 in my backyard of Seattle! Sure seems like this town and state in general have been rising in the ranks of national esteem lately, so the timing of this conference just feels so, so right to me. I’m very excited to be representing Cascadia poets everywhere, and although it’s always nice to travel to other locales (Boston was great last year), the hometown pride factor is pretty cool too.

The AWP Conference continues to grow in scale and popularity. It’s quite literally impossible to see and do it all, but I think it’s probably also impossible to not make the experience completely worth your while. In case you wanted to meet up with me to talk poetry, The Diegesis, creative writing in general, or professional freelancing, I’ll be around these parts:

Tuesday, Feb. 25th

7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Poetry Reading

Consider this an AWP prelude, but Joshua Young, Daniel Scott Parker, and I will be reading at Village Books in Bellingham, WA to ring in the one-year anniversary of The Diegesis and otherwise just enjoy each other’s company.

For more information on the event, follow these links:

Thursday, Feb 27th

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Gold Wake Press Table (K28)

Come meet me and buy books. Not just mine, but those of all the great Gold Wake Press poets with whom I have the privilege of sharing a label.

For more and the full schedule of authors, check out the Facebook page.

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Reading: Ghost Proposal, Lettered Streets Press, and Apostrophe Books Black Coffee Shop

This is a launch of sorts for Lettered Streets Press, which was co-founded by Diegesis co-writer Joshua Young and his brother Mike B. Young, with editing roles filled by fellow WWU graduate friend Ian Denning and Abigail Zimmer. I got to help edit one of the inaugural titles, Supper & Repair Kit, by Nicole Wilson.

Follow the Facebook link for more details.

Friday, Feb. 28th

7:00 – 9:00 p.m. – Gold Wake Press Reading

Come join a selection of Gold Wake Press poets as we read from works past, present, and future. For the record, I don’t know how one reads from a future work, since ostensibly they haven’t written it yet, but I’m going with it.

Follow the Facebook link for more details.

Saturday, March 1st

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Gold Wake Press Table (K28)

Back at it again for more book signing and sales!

  1. Hello Chas,
It’s Tuesday evening, February 24th, and I am not at Village Books for your reading. That busts me up, because I clipped the Best Bets promo with your photo out of the Herald yesterday, and was fully determined to be there this evening. I’ve had a very busy day, and couldn’t get free soon enough. In any case, I hope the event was spectacular. I called Village Books this evening, after the reading was underway, and said I wanted a copy of The Diegesis, and hoped they could get you to sign it for me. Maybe I’ll see you at AWP, where I expect to be on Thursday. My wife Anita will be representing her Egress Studio Press, and sharing a table with Lana Ayers of MoonPath Press–which published a volume of Anita’s poems in 2011 and is bringing out my Ravenous Bliss: New and Selected Love Poems this Spring.

    Carry on!

    Jim Bertolino
