A Belated Music Announcement – The Rise of Amniotic Buzzsaw

BuzzsawLogo

The past several months I’ve been working on finishing an album that I recorded with my friend Jake Frye (of Jesus on the Moon fame) while we were both still grad students at Western Washington University back in 2009–10. That’s a long time to sit on recordings, I know, but we were so proud of them that we knew we had to do some sort of formal release eventually. But first we had to master the tracks, and then we had to have album art done. And doing all that stuff in your spare time usually makes it take time.

A Farewell From Anyway, Soon

About a year and a half ago, my band, Anyway, Soon set out to record what was intended to be our first and final album. The duties of real life were taking their priority with members moving to different area codes, but we wanted to set down our final batch of songs as a sort of record of what we had done.

Sadly, although the recording process generally went very well, by the time everyone had dispersed, we just hadn’t gotten far along enough on the tracks to release a complete album, as intended. We did finish this one song though, which you can listen to below.

There are rough mixes of the other songs on our drummer/engineer’s Soundcloud page. It was a blast playing with these guys, and if I had one regret, it’s that I never found myself able to commit the amount of time/effort into the project as it deserved. But such is life.

Christmas Time at ChoppyRocks

Hey Everybody. A happy holidays to you. I thought I’d share this stupid awesome video with you as my little way of celebrating another successful solstice season. This is my fourth year doing Christmas covers of songs from 90s bands, and I don’t think I’ll be stopping the tradition anytime soon. So, I’ve included not only this year’s, but all the previous years just for good measure. It’s an amazing study in the annals of my facial hair too!

Stay jolly. Stay safe. Stay un-sober. Watch out for Drunk Uncle.

The Flaming Lips – “Christmas at the Zoo”

Weezer – “Christmas Song”

Pearl Jam – “Let Me Sleep (It’s Christmas Time)”

Local H – “Disgruntled Christmas”

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

So, it looks like we’re going to be surviving this whole Mayan apocalypse thing. That’s good. I have a book coming out next year and I’d like to have the satisfaction of knowing it was actually released before the world ups and quits on me.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to make an apocalypse playlist. I asked my friends to come up with suggestions, then put this together on Rdio. Sadly some of my friends’ awesome suggestions were not yet available on this platform, but hey. If you want to add to the playlist, either leave a comment or subscribe to it on Rdio. I’ve left it open for everyone to edit.

Sadly, I can’t embed the playlist, but click here or the image below to go to it.

Do Indies do it Better?

I must start this post with an essential caveat: this is all anecdotal. These arguments would not hold up in a court of law, but that being said I would have no idea why anyone would be talking about this in court in the first place. That would be a boring case to litigate. This is just me thinking out loud, so to speak, because I think that’s what having a blog is for.

Second caveat: this whole thing is going to reek of sounding hipsterish.

Amniotic Buzzsaw: DNR (Beans & Betrayal)

"DNR (Beans & Betrayal) by Amniotic Buzzsaw Just like my last post, I’d like to recount to you a cool thing I did many months ago, but that I’m just now getting around to sharing with you. I’ve been doing the Amniotic Buzzsaw project with my coconspirator Jake Frye since about mid-2009, when he called me up one night and asked me if I wanted to get drunk with him and write a song.

Well, we’ve now produced 13 songs, 10 of which will be seeing the light of day as our first album within the next couple months. Just gotta finish those final mixes. I am proud to say that alcohol has been involved in each of these cases.

I Miss You

Hello. I have been away for far too long. Had to go off and learn how to be a big, professional boy.

Gonna start posting to this site again soon. Redesigning some things in it now.

Good stuff is happening though. Got a chapbook out with the amazing Joshua Young called “The Diegesis.” You can check it out at Gold Wake Press here.

But what’s really cool, is that Gold Wake is putting out the full collection next April. I’ve put out a lot of books in the past year under different names, but this one will have my name on it, dammit.

In the meantime, here’s a disco song about hot man-on-narwhal action. You’re welcome.
